Jamestown Jammers News Release

JAMESTOWN, NY -The Auburn Doubledays jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning against the Jamestown Jammers Wednesday night. Armed with an early lead, the Doubledays would never look back en route to an eventual 6-2 victory.

Auburn jumped on Jamestown starter Tyler Eppler early and often to begin the game. Shortstop Osvaldo Abreu would leadoff the game by hitting a ground ball, which would be misfielded by Jammer third basemen Kevin Ross, allowing Abreu to advance to second on the play. The error would come back to haunt the Jammers, as the next batter, Auburn Second basemen Austin Davidson would crush a 2-run home run over the right field fence at Diethrick Park to stake the Doubledays to a 2-0 lead. Auburn wasn't done in the inning however. Catcher Raudy Read would follow Davidson's blast with a single to left field, would advance to second on a groundout, and would come around to score later in the inning on a sac fly off the bat of third basemen Cody Gunter, to make the score 3-0 in favor of Auburn.

Jamestown would try to cut into Auburn's lead by scoring a run in the bottom of the second. Right fielder Michael Suchy would start the inning with a booming triple to the right-center gap, and he would cross the plate on a sac fly by the next batter, designated hitter Kevin Krause.

3-1 would remain the score until the top of the fifth, when the Doubledays would add three more runs to their lead, highlighted by a 2-run home run by Read, which was his second home run in as many nights. When the dust settled after the top half of the fifth, Auburn would lead, 6-1.

The Jammers tried to claw back in the bottom of the inning, and push across another run. First basemen David Andriese would double to left field with one out, and would later score on an RBI-single by shortstop Erik Forgione, to make the score 6-2 in favor of Auburn.

That would be the last threat from the Jammers offense though, as Auburn starter Travis Ott kept the offense off balance for a good part of the game. In six innings of work, Ott would give up only four hits, while giving up the two Jammer runs, and striking out two.

On the Jamestown side, Eppler really settled down after his rough first inning. In 4 1/3 innings, he would give up four hits, four runs (two earned), and strike out four. Eppler would be relieved by Julio Eusebio, who would throw 2 1/3 innings, give up three hits, and two earned runs . Luis Urena would come on to throw the final 2 1/3 innings for the Jammers, and would only surrender one hit, while not giving up any runs.

Also for the Jammers, Suchy collected three hits on the night, and Andriese would pick up two.

The Jammers now head to Batavia for a series starting tomorrow. Tomorrow will be a double header, as the Jammers and Muckdogs will make up a game that was suspended due to rain earlier this season. The Jammers will also play in Batavia Friday night, before welcoming the Muckdogs to town for one game Saturday night at 7:05pm. Pirate Pride Night will be taking place at Diethrick Park Saturday. The Pittsburgh Pirates very own Pirate Parrot will be making his second ever appearance in Jamestown. Come on down to the ballpark for an awesome night of fun and entertainment.
