The Spinners close out the season-series with the Vermont Lake Monsters with a 7:05 first pitch.
S P I N - N O T E S:
Bullpen Falters: The Spinners jumped out to a two run-lead Tuesday night behind a two-run double by OF Danny Mars in the third inning...Unfortunately, after RHP Reed Reilly ceded things to the bullpen, the Lowell relievers could not hold on for the win, allowing the Lake Monsters to score six runs en route to a 7-5 loss to start the home stand...RHP Mario Alcantara and LHP Rob Smorol combined to allow six runs in two innings, allowing the Lake Monsters to start the series with a win, their first series opening win since they did so over the Spinners June 27.
Monge In, Ethington Out : With OF Nick Longhi banged up, the Spinners received reinforcements from the Gulf Coast League Red Sox in the form of OF Joseph Monge ... A 17th round draft pick in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, Monge was batting .274 (17-for-62) with four doubles, a triple and two home runs, driving in 17 while adding five stolen bases in 18 games...With Monge coming in, RHP Willie Ethington headed out, returning south to Fort Myers for rehab...Ethington last appeared in a game July 9 against Staten Island, when he had to leave after throwing six straight balls.
Reilly Goes Four : The closer at Cal-Poly, RHP Reed Reilly went four innings Tuesday night, in what he estimates was the longest outing he ' d thrown since high school...Reilly threw three scoreless innings before allowing a run in his fourth and final inning of work ... .Over four innings, Reilly allowed one run on three hits, striking out four ... Reilly had previously allowed five runs on seven hits in his first two outings, spanning 4.2 innings.
Out of this Planet: Atop the Spinners line-up, OF Danny Mars has been a catalyst, reaching base in each of his last ten games played, including hits in 9-of-10...Mars is batting .395 (15-for-38) over his last ten games, with 10 runs scored...For the season, Mars would be third in the league in batting average should he have enough at-bats to qualify, batting .375 on the season...Mars entered the game as a pinch-runner in the eighth inning Monday night, scoring a run before hitting a solo home run in his lone at-bat.
Travis Extends Streak to Eight: With a eighth inning single, 1B Sam Travis extended his hitting streak to eight-games, a season-high for the second round pick out of Indiana...OF Nick Longhi has the season-long streak for the Spinners, a 14-game streak from June 25 through July 12, the second longest-streak in the New York-Penn League this season.
Home Struggles : The Spinners struggles at LeLacheur Park continued Tuesday night, as with the loss the team has now lost six of their last seven home games, dropping their record at LeLacheur Park to 7-13.
Against Vermont : Tonight ' s tilt represents the final game of the season between the Lake Monsters and the Spinners...In the nine games between the two teams, the Spinners are 4-5....The Spinners are batting .295 (96-for-325) with 11 of their 21 home runs against Vermont...3B Jordan Betts has tallied three home runs and a .333 (10-for-30) average against Vermont, while 2B Raymel Flores (.433, 13-for-30) and 1B Sam Travis (.409, 9-for-22) have also fared particularly well against Vermont.
