Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

Hudson Valley, NY (7/22/14)- The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Staten Island Yankees 11-5 on Tuesday night, improving to 28-10 in 2014. With the victory, they boast a record of 16-3 at Dutchess Stadium, the best home record in the New York-Penn League. After nine meetings with their McNamara Division foe this season, Hudson Valley has taken seven of them, including the last five. They now hold an eight game lead over the Yankees in first place of the division.

Oscar Armenta started the game on the hill for Hudson Valley, going five innings of scoreless baseball and earning his third victory of the season. The lefty surrendered eight hits but no earned runs with two strikeouts in the outing. He is now 3-1 this summer with 22 strikeouts in seven starts.

Gerardo Reyes, Darren Fischer and Brian Miller would also throw for the Renegades in the outing, going the next four innings out of the bullpen. Their offense provided 11 runs on 15 hits and gave the pitching staff more than enough support at the plate. Offensively, Hudson Valley has scored a combined 27 runs in their last two games at Dutchess Stadium.

Grant Kay once again led the offensive charge, going 4-4 with three runs driven in. At home this year he has a home run, two triples, two doubles and four singles in two games. His batting average on the season sits at .536 with two homers and 5 RBI's. He was one of four Hudson Valley batters with a multi-hit performance, as Bralin Jackson had three hits and both Braxton Lee and Alec Sole chipped in with two.

Through 38 games the Renegades have the best record in the New York-Penn League. They have the best overall team pitching and more stolen bases than any of their opponents. Their 67 stolen bases are 19 more than Lowell's total of 48, as the Spinners are currently second in the category.

Notes: Hunter Lockwood's 10 home runs 29 RBI's are still good for second best in the New York-Penn League. Hudson Valley has pitched more innings than any other team, and their 2.90 ERA is the lowest of all fourteen teams.
