ValleyCats Sweep the Tigers

Norwich, CT - The Tri-City ValleyCats (27-12) defeated the Connecticut Tigers (19-20) by a score of 1-0 Wednesday afternoon at Dodd Stadium. The difference in the game came in the top of the seventh inning, 1B Ariel Ovando (3-4) drove in 3B Nick Tanielu (0-4) which was the only run scored in the game.

Connecticut native, RHP Troy Scribner picked up a no decision for the ValleyCats. Scribner pitched five scoreless innings while giving up three hits, two walks, and struck out six batters. RHP Aaron Vaughn (1-0) picked up the win in relief of Scribner as he pitched two perfect innings while striking out two. RHP Ryan Thompson (S, 4)picked up his fourth save in five tries as he faced one batter and recorded the final two outs in the game on an unassisted 6-3 double play.

The Tigers offense was held to just four hits in the game. As a team, the Tigers were 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight on base. LF Rashad Brown (1-4) picked up a hit in the game and has reached base safely in 11 consecutive games. In the two-game series the Tigers offense was held to three runs on 13 hits and were just 3-for-17 with runners in scoring position while leaving 14 men on base.

The Tigers head out to Maryland to take on the Aberdeen Ironbirds. Tigers RHP Chase Edwards (3-2, 3.51) is slated to face Ironbirds RHP Tanner Chleboard (1-1, 2.35). The pre-game show begins at 6:50 p.m. on AM 1310 WICH and cttigers.com.

The Connecticut Tigers are the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play in the New York-Penn League. The Tigers are in their 5th season at Dodd Stadium. Tickets are now on sale!
