Jamestown Jammers News Release

JAMESTOWN, NY - The Jamestown Jammers saw their four-game home winning streak come to an end Tuesday night at the hands of the Auburn Doubledays, and starting pitcher Reynaldo Lopez. Lopez stymied the Jammer offense in six innings of work, while only giving up three hits, striking out four, and surrendering no runs, while leading Auburn to a 5-3 victory over the Jammers.

Jamestown starter Marek Minarik did his best to match Lopez, and got through the first three innings of the game without giving up any runs. Auburn would get to Minarik in the fourth however, and score four runs, on four hits. Shortstop Osvaldo Abreu would lead off the inning with a double. The next batter, right fielder Brian Langlois would be hit by a pitch to put runners on second and first, with no outs. Designated hitter Raudy Read would then step up to the plate, and crush a 3-run home run over the left field wall at Diethrick Park, to give the Doubledays a 3-0 lead. Later in the inning, third basemen Cody Gunter would hit another home run to give the Doubledays a 4-0 advantage.

Auburn would add another run in the top of the sixth inning to extend their lead to five. Read walked, moved to second on a single by first basemen Diomedes Eusebio, moved to third on another single by center fielder Dale Carey, and scored on a sac fly off the bat of second basemen Bryan Mejia.

Once Reynaldo Lopez exited the game for the Doubledays, the Jammers were finally able to mount some offense in the bottom of the eighth. Jamestown would score three runs in the inning on two hits. Jamestown left fielder Jordan Luplow would start the inning by striking out, but reached via a passed ball. Designated hitter Taylor Gushue singled to right field, which allowed Luplow to advance to third. Right fielder Michael Suchy then ripped another single to right field, and Luplow would cross the plate with the Jammers first run of the night. Catcher Kevin Krause would walk to load the bases, with Gushue on third, and Suchy on second. With the next hitter, first basemen Kevin Ross batting, a passed ball allowed Gushue to score with the Jammers second run of the inning. Suchy also advanced to third on the play. Third basemen Francisco Aponte would then groundout, but Suchy would score, allowing the Jammers to trim Auburn's lead to 5-3.

Unfortunately, the Jammers couldn't climb any closer, and would end up falling to the Doubledays in the first game of the two game series. Center fielder Carl Anderson, Gushue, Suchy, Aponte, second basemen Erik Lunde, and shortstop Erik Forgione picked up the six Jamestown hits.

On the mound for the Jammers, Minarik would work 3 2/3 innings, while giving up four earned runs (all in the 4th inning), three hits, and striking out four. He would be relieved by Jerry Mulderig, who would throw 2 1/3 innings, and give up the one run in the sixth inning, while striking out two. Nick Neumann and Eric Karch would combine to throw three scoreless innings for the Jammers to finish out the game.

Auburn and Jamestown will finish up their two game series Wednesday night at 7:05pm. It will be Autism Awareness Night at Diethrick Park. Come on down and help the Jammers heighten awareness for Autism, and help raise money towards the completion of a sensory room for local children who are afflicted with Autism. Tyler Eppler, the right-handed pitcher who was drafted this year out of Sam Houston State, will be on the mound for the Jammers. He will be opposed by left-handed pitcher Travis Ott of the Doubledays.
