Worcester IceCats News Release

WORCESTER, MA- It was announced today by the American Hockey League (AHL) that Worcester IceCats center Blake Evans was named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week. The third year professional scored four goals, added an assist and was plus-5 during the IceCats three game week: 3(4/1/5) +5.

Evans began the week by securing the IceCats two points. He bagged the only goal in Worcester's 1-0 win on Wednesday night in Portland. Coming into the game, the two clubs were tied in the Atlantic Division standings. The Kindersly, Saskatchewan native followed up his number two star honors in Portland by being named the number one star, after scoring twice in Worcester's 5-2 victory over Hershey on Saturday night.

On Sunday, Evans played in his 105th consecutive game as a member of the IceCats, as Worcester beat their division rivals from Springfield, 4-2. The 23-year old gave the IceCats a lead they would not relinquish, making it 2-1 in the second period and had the only assist on the final goal of the game. That goal was an AHL record two seconds after the Falcons lit the lamp, securing Evans at least a slice of league history and a piece in five of the IceCats 10 goals during the week.

Evans was originally drafted by Washington in 1998. He was signed by St. Louis as a free agent in April of 2001. In recognition of his achievement, Evans will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket, presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming game. In addition, Sher-Wood will donate five travel bags to the MidState Junior IceCats Youth Hockey League in Evans' name.

The ‘Cats are on the road for the next four games. They return to Worcester's Centrum Centre on Wednesday, March 17th for a 7:05 PM faceoff with the Houston Aeros.
