Thrashers Deal Piros for Rossiter

The Atlanta Thrashers have recalled center Kamil Piros (KA-mihl PIH-roash) and traded him to the Florida Panthers in exchange for defenseman Kyle Rossiter (RAWS-ih-tuhr), who has been assigned to the Chicago Wolves.

The 6-foot-3-inch, 217-pound Rossiter, who appeared in four games with the Panthers this season, shared first among San Antonio Rampage defensemen with five goals and ranked fourth among team blueliners with 12 points in 51 games this season.

The Edmonton, Alberta, native, who is playing his fourth professional season, was the Panthers' first pick (30th overall) in the 1998 National Hockey League entry draft. Last year, Rossiter tallied seven assists and 107 penalty minutes in 67 games with the Rampage.

The 23-year-old defenseman has recorded nine penalty minutes in nine NHL games with the Panthers spanning the last three seasons (2001-2004), which includes his NHL debut on April 3, 2002, against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Overall, Rossiter has registered 10 goals; 26 assists; 36 points; and 375 penalty minutes in 270 American Hockey League games with the Louisville Panthers (2000-01); Utah Grizzlies (2001-02); and Rampage (2002-04).

Rossiter, who played for Team Canada in the 2000 World Junior Championships, finished his junior career with 21 goals; 57 assists; 78 points; and 616 penalty minutes in 245 games with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League, which includes career-highs of 11 goals, 22 assists and 33 points in 1999-2000. Rossiter helped Spokane reach the 2000 WHL Finals with four assists and five points in 15 games.

Piros, who began the season with the Thrashers, has notched 10 goals, 20 assists and 30 points in 50 games with the Wolves this season.

The 24-year-old forward registered one assist and two penalty minutes in 11 games with Atlanta before being assigned to Chicago on Nov. 1.

Overall, the Most, Czech Republic, native has recorded three goals, four assists and seven points in 22 NHL games spanning three seasons (2001-2004) with the Thrashers, which includes a hat trick in a four-point effort (3G, A) against the Tampa Bay Lightning on April 6 last season.

A member of Chicago's 2002 Calder Cup Champion team, Piros has contributed 39 goals, 59 assists, 98 points and 52 penalty minutes in 165 AHL games with the Wolves.
