AHL Providence Bruins

P-Bruins play four games this week

March 8, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release

The Providence Bruins begin the week tied for third place with the Worcester IceCats in the Atlantic Division with their 28-21-10-3 record (69 points). The Black and Gold had its season-high five-game winning streak snapped in a 2-0 loss to Portland on Sunday, but remain just two points behind the second place Manchester Monarchs. With four games this week, head coach Scott Gordon's club has the chance to gain some ground in the tightly-contested division standings. The Bruins visit the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Wednesday night, before returning home to host the Philadelphia Phantoms on Friday, March 12 at 7:05 p.m. They visit the Albany River Rats on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. before wrapping up the grinding week with a home game against Worcester on Sunday, March 14 at 4:05 p.m.

Bruin center Andre Savage will be a featured guest tonight at 7:00 p.m. on COX-3's "Sports Page Live". Program host A.J. Vittone and Providence Journal beat writer Joe McDonald will interview Savage, who leads the Bruins in scoring with 17-26-43 totals in 58 games. He has 16-26-42 totals in 50 games since being acquired from the Philadelphia Phantoms on October 29. The 28-year-old native of Ottawa, Ontario is on the verge of making P-Bruins history. With 71-100-171 totals in 178 career games in Providence, he is one point away from tying former Bruin Tim Sweeney for second place on the franchise career scoring list. He needs 15 points in the team's final 18 games to match former Bruin and current Nashville Predator Sergei Zholtok for the all-time scoring record (186 points). Savage also needs four assists to tie former Bruin defenseman Brandon Smith for the all-time franchise record.

The 10th edition of "Providence Bruins Weekly Presented by National City Mortgage" will air on WSKO AM-790 on Tuesday, March 9 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The show, hosted by Adam Alper, will feature Providence Bruins Head Coach Scott Gordon and Bruin forwards Matt Herr and Mike Scott. In addition, Joe McDonald of the Providence Journal will also be on the show. This week's featured guest in the "Providence Bruins Alumni" segment will be Boston Bruins defenseman Nick Boynton. Boynton was the 1999-2000 Providence Bruins Rookie of the Year, and 2000-01 Providence Bruins Defenseman of the Year. He made his first appearance in the NHL All-Star Game last month, and is playing in his third full season with Boston.
