
Penguins acquire defenseman Nasreddine

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired defenseman Alain Nasreddine (pronounced NAS-ruh-deen) from the New York Islanders in exchange for right wing Steve Webb, it was announced today by General Manager Craig Patrick.
Nasreddine, 28, has played in 53 games this season with the Islanders' American Hockey League affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, recording seven points (1+6) and 70 penalty minutes. In addition, Nasreddine played in three games with the Islanders, going scoreless with two penalty minutes.
The 6'1" and 201-pound native of Montreal, Quebec has played in 21 career NHL games with Chicago, Montreal and the New York Islanders, going scoreless with 56 penalty minutes. In 477 career games in the AHL with Carolina, Portland, Fredericton, Quebec, Hamilton, and Bridgeport, Nasreddine has recorded 81 points (16+650 and 1,190 penalty minutes.
Following the trade, he was assigned to Pittsburgh's AHL affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He will join the team in Norfolk, Virginia, where the Penguins (27-24-7-5, 66 pts., 5TH -Place, East Division)are playing the Admirals (30-27-4-5, 69 pts., 3RD -Place, East Division) this week. The Penguins, who defeated the Admirals , 2-1, on Sunday continue their three-game series with games against the Admirals on Wednesday (7:15 p.m.) and Friday, March 12 (7:30 p.m.) at Scope.
Webb, 28, has played in 30 games this season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, recording 11 points (4+7) and 48 penalty minutes. In addition, Webb played in five games with Pittsburgh, going scoreless with two penalty minutes.
The 6'0", 211-pound native of Peterborough, Ontario has played in 316 career NHL games with the Islanders and Pittsburgh, recording 18 points (5+13) and 530 penalty minutes.
Webb was claimed off waivers by the Penguins from Philadelphia on October 22, 2003.
