Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

MOOSIC, Pa. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders dropped the opener of their series to the Worcester Red Sox 7-2 on Tuesday night at PNC Field. It marked just the second time this season that the RailRiders have suffered three straight defeats.

Luke Voit was 1-for-3 with a home run in the first game of his MLB rehab assignment, while playing seven innings at first base.

The WooSox took the lead in the top of the first inning when Matt Krook walked in two runs with the bases loaded. Worcester tacked on another on an RBI infield single from Josh Ockimey in the second to take a 3-0 advantage.

The RailRiders struck back in the bottom of the second in unconventional fashion, with Rob Brantly legging out a triple and scoring on a balk from Kutter Crawford. The Red Sox responded with a run against Reggie McClain in the top of the third to extend the lead to 4-1.

In the bottom of the sixth, Voit homered to straightaway center off Zack Kelly to cut the deficit to 4-2. Once again, the Red Sox answered back in the top of the eighth with a two-run home run from Ryan Fitzgerald off Braden Bristo. They added another tally in the frame off Adam Warren on an Ockimey RBI single.

Matt Hall worked around a two-out single to close out the RailRiders in the ninth and secure a 7-2 Red Sox win. Crawford (1-1) got the win, allowing one run in 5.0 innings, while Krook (2-3) took the loss.

Short-handed in the bullpen due to a flurry of roster moves earlier in the day, infielder Brandon Wagner pitched the ninth for the RailRiders, allowing a hit but no runs. He was the first position player to pitch for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season.

Brantly had a strong game in his first contest with SWB in three weeks, going 3-for-4 with a triple and a run scored. It was his first triple since the 2019 season.

SWB continues its series with Worcester on Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. LHP J.P. Sears makes his Triple-A debut for the RailRiders, opposed by RHP Connor Seabold (0-2, 7.56) of the Red Sox.
