Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, WI - John Wooten smacked a walk-off home run over the wall in left in the bottom of the tenth inning as the Beloit Snappers took a 3-2 nail-biter from the Lake County Captains in Midwest League action at Pohlman Field on Wednesday night with 633 in attendance.
The Snappers end their four game losing streak and up their record to 56-33 (13-6 in the second half). The Captains see their record fall to 35-51 (12-7 in the second half).
Wooten's homer came with one out in the tenth. He clobbered the first pitch of the at-bat against Cody Penny (0-1) for the game- winning clout and Beloit celebrated with the night's hero at home plate. Tyler Vail's (4-2) scoreless ninth and tenth put him on the winning side of the ledger.
Lake County got on the board first in the top of the fourth as they strung together three singles, the final one by Joseph Sever, for a 1-0 lead.
Beloit leap-frogged ahead in the fifth when, after two singles and a sacrifice, an RBI Aaron Shipman groundout and an error each brought in a run. That lead didn't last long, though, as Erik Gonzalez (2-5, HR, RBI, run) went deep for his eighth homer of the season in the sixth, evening the score at 2-2.
Both bullpens settled in after that as the game moved into extras. In the top of the tenth, Lake County had an opportunity short-circuited when, with two men on and one out, Eric Haase hit a fly to left-center that was run down by Brett Vertigan. The centerfielder then fired a strike to second base to double up the runner for the third out. Wooten took care of the rest.
On Thursday night, the Snappers and Captains will fight it out in another 7:00pm game. RHP Seth Streich (9-5, 4.34 ERA) will throw for Beloit and RHP Dylan Baker (6-5, 3.40 ERA) is the scheduled starter for Lake County. It will be a great night for anyone who wants to enjoy a cold one at the park, thanks to Snappy Hour. The Firehouse Grill will have 8oz drafts of Miller Lite for only $1 while small sodas at the main stand will also be just $1. You can enjoy rail mixed drinks on the Sud's O'Hanahan's Bullpen Deck and the Miller On Deck for the low price of $3.
