Rattlers Have Final Answer in Seesaw Affair

Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Appleton, WI -- The TinCaps lost to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, 8-6, in a seesaw game that saw four ties and five lead changes Wednesday night at Fox Cities Stadium. Despite the loss, the TinCaps came up with at least nine hits for the fifth straight game.
Fort Wayne (7-12, 49-39) scored first in the back-and-forth affair with a run in the first inning. Dane Phillips plated Maxx Tissenbaum with a two-out double to make it 1-0. However, the lead was gone in the bottom of the first when Wisconsin's Mike Garza drove home Michael Reed and Tyrone Taylor on a two-out single to put the Rattlers up, 2-1.
In the top of the second, the TinCaps came up with three runs. Luis Domoromo scored Luis Tejada on a single, Tyler Stubblefield brought Tejada home on a double, and Mallex Smith drove in Stubblefield on a single. The 4-2 Fort Wayne lead, however, was decimated in the bottom of second. With two outs, the Rattlers scored three unearned runs, thanks to two TinCaps errors, to regain the edge, 5-4.
With a run in the third on a Domoromo groundout and another in the fourth on a Diego Goris groundout, Fort Wayne seized a 6-5 advantage. TinCaps Starter Zach Eflin recovered after early trouble to leave the game in line for the win. Eflin struck out six in five innings.
But unfortunately for Eflin and the TinCaps, Wisconsin (8-11, 37-47) scored twice against Matt Chabot (2-1) in the sixth. Max Walla tripled and scored on another triple by Chris MacFarland to tie the game, 6-6. Chabot struck out the side in the inning, but a third strike to Orlando Arcia was a wild pitch that allowed MacFarland to score what would prove to be the game-winning run. The Rattlers also added an insurance run in the eighth off Jorge Guzman.
Meanwhile, Fort Wayne couldn't figure out reliever Ryan Gibbard (4-2). The right-hander pitched the final four innings for Wisconsin without allowing a hit.
The TinCaps and Timber Rattlers play the middle game of their three-game series Thursday night at 8:05 EST. Fort Wayne sends lefty Max Fried to the mound against Wisconsin's Leonard Lorenzo. The game can be heard on The Fan 1380 and TheFanFortWayne.com.
