
Snappers Walk off against Captains

Lake County Captains News Release
(Beloit, WI) -John Wooten smashed his 14th homerun of the season over the left field wall in the bottom of the 10th inning and the Beloit Snappers (13-6) defeated the Captains (12-7) by a final of 3-2. The Captains stranded 10 runners on base. Lake County is now 0-5 in extra innings.
Lake County broke through on the scoreboard first. In the fourth inning, Joe Sever came to the plate with Yhoxian Median at second base and Logan Vick at first. Sever promptly singled up the middle and Median scored and the score was 1-0 Lake County.
Beloit scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. With two runners in scoring position and just one out, Aaron Shipman grounded out to first base and the game was tied at 1-1. The runner from second moved to third, and later scored on an error by Erik Gonzalez his 17th of the season and Beloit took a 2-1 lead.
Erik Gonzalez made up for his error in the top of the sixth as he blasted his eighth homerun of the season to tie the game up at 2-2. Gonzalez leads the team in RBI's as he now has 41.
LHP Ryan Merritt (5-8) started the ballgame for the Captains and did not get a decision. Ryan pitched five and one third innings. Merritt allowed two runs, only one was earned. Merritt yielded six hits and he fanned three. The Lake County bullpen pitched the rest of the way and the loss went to Cody Penny (0-1). Penny went one and one third innings allowing one hit, one earned run it was the homerun to Wooten.
RHP Andres Avila (3-1) got the starting nod from Beloit and did not get a decision. Avila pitched five and one third innings and allowed two earned runs on eight hits. He walked one and fanned three. The bullpen for the Snappers kept the Captains off the scoreboard in the final four and two thirds innings to preserve the tie, and the win. The winning pitcher was Tyler Vail (4-2) who pitched two innings of relief.
Lake County will remain on the road for game two of a three game series against the Beloit Snappers. Lake County will start RHP Dylan Baker (6-5, 3.40) and the Snappers will counter with RHP Seth Streich (9-5, 4.34). First Pitch will be at 8:00 PM from Pohlman Field in Beloit, Wisconsin.
