Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Davenport, IA - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (13-7, 51-37) opened a Western Division road trip with an 8-2 victory over the Quad Cities River Bandits (12-6, 50-37) at Modern Woodmen Park on Wednesday. Andrew Toles almost hit for the cycle by collecting every hit except for a home run while also driving in two runs. Marcus Jensen picked up his sixth victory of the season while pitching in relief of Blake Snell.
Bowling Green was the first to strike the scoreboard with a second-inning rally. Joey Rickard capped a string of back-to-back-to-back singles to open the inning by bringing in Leonardo Reginatto. Two batters later, Brandon Martin drove in Marty Gantt with a single. Toles followed Martin with a single that plated Patrick Leonard for an early 3-0 advantage.
Leonard added to the advantage with a solo home run to lead off the fourth inning. Bowling Green added another score in the fifth to build the lead to 5-0. Tommy Coyle led off with a walk and made it to third base for another RBI hit from Rickard.
Quad Cities and Bowling Green traded runs over the next few innings. The River Bandits got on the scoreboard after a Bobby Borchering home run during the home half of the sixth inning. The Hot Rods answered in the seventh with a Tyler Goeddel triple that set up an RBI groundout from Reginatto. Bowling Green kept Quad Cities from scoring in the bottom of the frame as Martin took away a run-scoring hit from Jesse Wierzbicki with a leaping grab from shortstop.
The scoring concluded in the eighth inning. Andrew Toles hit a triple that brought Goeddel home for a 7-1 lead. Toles later scored on a single off the bat of Coyle. Quad Cities struck another home run, this time from Rio Ruiz, in the bottom of the inning for the last score of the contest.
The series is set to continue on Thursday evening at 7:00 PM CDT. Hot Rods RHP Dylan Floro (7-2, 1.87) will pitch against River Bandits RHP Vincent Velasquez (6-3, 3.56). Chris Kleinhans-Schulz will call the action, starting at 6:30 PM CDT with the Forever Communications Pregame Show on the Hot Rods Radio Network (1340 "The Ticket" WBGN-AM and 1340wbgn.com).
The Hot Rods return to Bowling Green Ballpark on July 17 to start a six-game homestand. The homestand will begin with another IGA All-You-Can-Eat Wednesday, featuring a buffet that is available with an $8 upgrade to any purchased ticket for Wednesday's contest.
