Wausau Woodchucks News Release
WAUSAU, WI - After a near three hour rain delay, the Wisconsin Woodchucks and Traverse City Pit Spitters eventually resumed play. The Pit Spitters would go on to win by a final score of 9-4.
The majority of the scoring occurred in the first two innings. The Pit Spitters scored first by putting together a three-run first inning. The Woodchucks responded by scoring two runs. Those two runs came off the bat of Byron Murray. He hit a two-run home run to dead center. Murray now leads the Woodchucks with seven home runs this season.
Traverse City scored two more runs in the second inning. Their five runs were allowed by Woodchucks starting pitcher Jared Pettitte. In his three innings of work, he allowed six hits, walked two, and struck out four.
The Woodchucks also added two more runs in the second inning. The dynamic duo of Brandon Seltzer and Adam Frank struck once again. They each drove in a run with an RBI single. This made the score 5-4 with Traverse City holding the lead.
After the rain delay, the Pit Spitters were able to add to their one-run lead. Jake Wilson drove in a run with an RBI single not too long before midnight. Then, in the eighth inning, the Pit Spitters hit a three-run home run that gave them a 9-4 lead. Traverse City never let go of that lead, winning by a final score of 9-4.
