Wausau Woodchucks News Release
WAUSAU - The Wisconsin Woodchucks three-run eighth inning rally would lead them to victory over the Battle Creek Bombers 7-6.
Play resumed from June 5th in the top of the second inning with the Woodchucks leading the Bombers 2-0, but the Bombers tied up the game in that inning. Joe Serrano scored from third base after John Clay Reeves' throwing error trying to throw out a runner at second base. Daniel Cucjen scored later in the inning on a single to right field from Bombers' teammate Cam Gibson to even up the game at two.
The Woodchucks regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth after a Joey Rodriguez would hit a fly ball deep enough to allow Reeves to score on the play and give the Woodchucks a 3-2 lead.
A four-run fifth inning allowed the Bombers to regain the lead back from the Woodchucks. After the third straight single to begin the inning from Matt Fears, Matthew Goodson came into score to even the score at three. A double by Rouric Bridgewater would bring home Gibson on the play to regain the lead. Another double by Kade Scivique brought in Bridgewater to give the Bombers a 6-3 advantage.
A home run by Woodchucks' third baseman Josh Goossen-Brown would cut the Bombers deficit to two.The Woodchucks rallied and took the lead back after a three-run eighth inning. After two singles to lead off the inning, Austin Diemer would pinch hit for Goossen-Brown looking to sacrifice the runners over. After a wild pitch advanced both runners into scoring position, Diemer would hit a two-run triple down the right field line. Reeves would drive in Diemer in the very next at-bat to give the Woodchucks a 7-6 advantage which would be the difference in the game.
