Blue Anchors Rally Past Cats

The Alexandria Blue Anchors rallied for three runs in the bottom of the 9th inning to knock off the Border Cats 9-8 Wednesday night at Knute Nelson Memorial Park. The game closed out the first half of the NWL season for both clubs as the Cats finished up in 7th place in the North Division with a 13-22 record.

Newcomer Ben Neyen gave up four hits and three runs in taking the loss in relief. Neyen, a junior righthander from Carrollton, TX., just signed with the Cats after going 10-3 with a 2.10 ERA in 14 games this season for Lyon College, an Arkansas based NAIA school. Steven Pastrana (Dominican College) made his debut on the mound for Thunder Bay and pitched two scoresless innings, allowing just one hit, while striking out three. John Hayes (Murray State College) started for the Cats and went six innings. The righthander gave up 10 hits and six runs with four walks and four strikeouts.

Tyler Duplantis (Nicholls State University) had another big night at the plate for the Cats as he belted two solo home runs and scored three times. Duplantis leads the club with six home runs on the season. Kyle Hann (Mississippi State University) also homered as he went 2-4 with three runs batted in and a run scored. Joey Hawkins (Missouri State University) added two hits in the loss.

The Cats return home to open the second half of the season tonight as they kick off a four game homestand starting with a two game series against the Mankato MoonDogs. First pitch at Subway Field is set for 7:05pm.

CLAW MARKS: The Waterloo Bucks captured the first half North Division title with a 24-10 record, beating out the Willmar Stingers by a game and half atop the standings. The South Division came down to a final day head-to- head showdown and the Madison Mallards crushed the Lacrosse Loggers 12-2 to punch their ticket into the playoffs.
