LA CROSSE, WI - The La Crosse Loggers (21-14) entered Wednesday night one win away from the playoffs. Unfortunately the Madison Mallards (21-12) pounded out 15 hits, en route to a 12-2 victory in front of 3,557 fans at Copeland Park.

Despite giving up a single to John LaPrise and walking designated hitter Drew Weeks, Logger starter Collin Monsour (California) got out of the first inning without giving up a run.

The top of the second was a different story. Monsour walked Jeff Zahn to begin the frame and catcher Jason Goldstein then followed with a single to right field. The ball rolled under right fielder Mike Nadratowski's glove and Zahn came around to score the first run of the game.

Madison struck again in the top of both the fourth and fifth inning. The combination of six hits, two walks and two errors led to seven Madison runs between the two innings.

Monsour was not his usual self on the mound in the Loggers loss. The freshman scattered seven hits and three walks over four and two-thirds innings. His earned-run-average still sits at an impressive 2.56.

After a Zack Rivera (Long Beach State) double and Brandon DeFazio (San Diego) single, the energy picked up at the Lumberyard, but it was too late. Both runners would score on RBI's by Nick Day (Iowa) and Nadratowski (Grand Valley State).

La Crosse will begin their second half of the season tomorrow afternoon in Wisconsin Rapids at 3:05pm. Tune into the Loggers Radio Network where Micah Schroeder and Nick Rytilahti will bring you all of the action.
