Bombers Drop Both Ends of Double Dip

Wausau, Wisc - The Battle Creek Bombers (0-2) got off to a rough start in the second half of the Northwoods League season against the Wisconsin Woodchucks (2-0) . The Bombers played a double header in Wausau on Thursday night.

Game 1 - The first game was a continuation of a postponed matchup from June 5 th . The two teams picked things up in the top of the 2 nd with Wisconsin on top, 2-0. Battle Creek wasted no time getting on the board. The Bombers plated two runs in part thanks to an RBI single from Cam Gibson. David Stagg took over on the mound and went six strong innings giving up just two runs and striking out 8. Wisconsin jumped on top in the bottom half of the 4 th but then the Bombers answered with 4 of their own in the road half of the 5 th . Matthew Goodson started things off with a single followed by a single from Gibson. Matthew Fears also singled. Goodson, Gibson and Fears would all score. A double by Kade Scivicque plated Rouric Bridgewater. That would be the last time the Bombers would lead though. Brian Heldman (L 1-2) surrendered 3 runs in the bottom of the 8 th inning without recording an out. Battle Creek was retired in order in the top half of the 9 th with Jackson Lowery (S 4) doing the work. Aaron Fossas (W 2-0) pitched three and a third innings of relief. Wisconsin won by a final of 7-6

Game 2 - Matthew Goodson continued his hot hitting in the nightcap. With Battle Creek trailing 2-0 entering the top of the 5 th, it looked like it was going to be another quick inning, but with two outs Battle Creek worked the bases loaded off starter Austin Orewiler . Then, the first pitch that Goodson saw from reliever Pascal Paul (W 1-0) was sent over the right-center field wall for his third homer in two days for a grand slam. Unfortunately, that lead would not hold up. Battle Creek took a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the 6 th . The first two men reached against Kegan Yuhl who pitched 5 innings and struck out 4. Todd Eaton (L 1-4) was unable to hold the lead at Wisconsin plated 3 runs to take a 5-4 lead. Max Ising (S 3) worked a perfect 7 th inning. Hunter Devall (1-2) gets the start tomorrow.
