Wood Ducks and Vivian Howard Teaming up for Annual Peanut Butter Drive
June 5, 2018 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Down East Wood Ducks News Release
Kinston, North Carolina - The Down East Wood Ducks and Vivian Howard announced on Tuesday they will conduct the 2nd Annual Peanut Butter Drive to collect jars of peanut butter before the Wood Ducks vs. Wilmington Blue Rocks game on Tuesday, June 12th. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. and first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Donations will benefit the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina.
Over 500,000 people in the 34 counties served by the Food Bank struggle with food insecurity. The peanut butter collected at next week's drive will be used to help children who are in need.
Any fan that donates a jar of peanut butter will receive a coupon good for a $3 discount on a game ticket for that night. In addition to the ticket discount, the first 100 fans that donate a jar of peanut butter will receive two free tacos that are served inside of Grainger Stadium as part of Taco Tuesday and will be entered into a drawing for a $25 Boiler Room Oyster Bar Gift Card.
"Our inaugural drive in 2017 was a big success as we collected 248 pounds of peanut butter", said Wade Howell, General Manager of the Wood Ducks. "We are looking forward to working with Vivian and the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina on another successful event next week."
"Peanut Butter takes the can out of a canned food drive," said Vivian Howard, Emmy-winning host of "A Chef's Life" and co-owner of Chef and the Farmer, Boiler Room, and Benny's Big Time Pizzeria.
"It's full of protein, low in sugar and sodium and it's shelf stable. Lots of local kids have less to eat when school is out so we encourage all fans to bring a jar of peanut butter to the game and be a part of making summer something to look forward to for these kids."
Fans can drop off their donations at the front entrance of Grainger Stadium. Members of the South Lenoir High School softball team will be on site to help collect the jars of peanut butter.
