Nationals Explode for Fifteen Runs in Rout of Keys

WOODBRIDGE, VA-The Potomac Nationals (28-25) used three innings of four runs or more to defeat the Frederick Keys (23-31) on Tuesday night at Northwest Federal Field at Pfitzner Stadium. The game featured three Major League rehab assignments, with Darren O'Day and Colby Rasmus appearing for the Keys and Adam Eaton playing for Potomac.

Rasmus started the game and played right field for the Keys. He finished 0-for-4 with two strikeouts and two ground outs. O'Day pitched in the fifth inning for the Keys, and collected two outs. The right-hander would walk the bases loaded, and was tagged with three runs after Jake Noll hit a grand slam off at Matt Trowbridge. In his outing, O'Day threw 25 pitches and 10 for strikes.

The Nationals used a pair of home runs to get on the board in the second. Jakson Reetz led off with a walk, and scored on a Rhett Wiseman two-run home run. Two batters later, Bryan Mejia hit a double. That brought up Eaton, who hit a two-run home run to push the Nationals lead to 4-0.

Potomac scored six more times in the fourth. Jack Sundberg led off with a double, and would move to third on a fly out. Eaton drove him home with a single, and Carter Kieboom and Ian Sagdal followed with singles of their own. With the bases loaded, Jake Noll drove in Eaton, and Alec Keller cleared the bases with a triple that made it a 9-0 game. The final run of the inning came on a ground out from Jakson Reetz that scored Keller.

In the fifth, the Nationals scored four on the Noll grand slam. Later in the frame, Alec Keller singled and was brought home on a Reetz double to end the scoring. The 15 run loss was the largest margin of defeat for the Keys on the season.

In his shortest outing of the year, Ofelky Peralta (1-6) lasted just 1.2 innings and allowed four runs on five hits while walking two. Tyler Mapes (4-1) picked up the win for the Nationals. He pitched seven scoreless innings, and allowed just three hits while striking out six.

The Keys and Nationals continue their series on Wednesday night. Left-hander Alex Wells (3-3, 3.69) makes the start for the orange and black. He will be opposed by Nationals southpaw Matthew Crownover (2-4, 6.29). First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. and the game can be heard on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn Radio app.

The Frederick Keys are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and play their home games at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.
