TONIGHT: The Mudcats begin a six game home stand tonight with the first game of a three game series versus the Down East Wood Ducks at Five County Stadium in Zebulon.

ICYMI: The Mudcats were off yesterday and last played on Sunday, June 3 in Winston-Salem... Ronnie Gideon's solo home run in the second inning accounted for all of Carolina's scoring in a 5-1 loss to the Dash on Sunday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark. Winston-Salem scored four runs in the third, before adding one more in the eighth while finishing off a series sweep.

VS. DEWD: Tonight's game is the first of a three game series between the Mudcats and Wood Ducks at Five County Stadium. It is also the 14th of 23 total games between the two teams this season. The Wood Ducks lead the overall season series 8-5; with six of those victories coming at Grainger Stadium. The Wood Ducks have swept the Mudcats twice at home this season, but are 2-5 at Five County Stadium against Carolina this year.

STARTING OFF: The Carolina League's earned run average leader, LHP Cam Roegner has the start for the Mudcats in tonight's series opener against the Wood Ducks. Roegner is 6-2 this season and has pitched to a 1.26 ERA over 10 starts and 57.1 innings pitched. He has also totaled 41 strikeouts, 15 walks and a .231 average against this season... RHP Jonathan Hernandez, who own's the CL's second lowest ERA, has the start for Down East tonight. Hernandez currently leads the CL in most strikeouts have struck out 73 over 54.1 innings this season. He is currently 4-2 with a 1.66 ERA and a CL best 0.87 WHIP this year.

SINCE WHEN: The Mudcats are 9-7 since May 18 and own a +11 run differential over that same span... The Carolina pitching staff has collectively pitched to a 2.75 ERA and the offense has averaged 4.6 runs per game since May 18... The Carolina starting rotation is 5-5 with four quality starts and a 2.00 ERA since May 18 (72.0 IP, 34 BB, 77 SO)... The Carolina bullpen is 4-2-2 and has pitched to a 3.84 ERA since May 18 (68.0 IP, 31 BB, 60 SO).

WHERE THEY RANK: Cam Roegner leads the Carolina League in lowest earned run average this season having pitched to a 1.26 ERA (57.1 IP, 8 ER) this season. Roegner is also 5th the CL in innings pitched (57.1), tied for 2nd in wins (6), 2nd in LOB% (86.5%) and 3rd in GB% (52.8%)... Luis Aviles Jr. is tied for 2nd in the CL in stolen bases (14)... Tucker Neuhaus (72) and Ronnie Gideon (69) are 1st and 2nd in the CL in most strikeouts... Luke Barker is tied for the CL lead in games (18), 4th among CL relievers in lowest average against (.161) and is 2nd among CL relievers in fewest baserunners/9ip (7.33).

STINGY MAY: Carolina pitchers combined to pitch to a Carolina League best 2.65 ERA in May (258.1 IP, 105 BB, 255 SO, .225 AVG). They also went 16-13 in May, while the offense totaled 20 home runs, 4.48 runs/game and a .245 average (.702 OPS).

MUDDIES ON THE POND: Carolina is batting a CL low .236 with runners on base. The Mudcats are also 6th in the CL when batting with runners in scoring position (.246) and 7th when batting with RISP/2-outs (.218) this season. They have additionally struck out a league high 238 times when batting with runners on base.

GOT HEEEM: Max McDowell leads MiLB catchers in most caught steals (30) and is 2nd in caught stealing/stolen base efficiency (.536) for catchers with at least 30 attempts against in all of MiLB... He totaled 18 CS (.450) during his first season with the AZL Brewers in 2015. He then totaled 54 CS (.443) in 2016 with Wisconsin and 31 CS (.556) last season with Carolina.

HITS AND Ks: The Carolina offense has totaled 117 more strikeouts than hits (554 SO, 437 H) so far this season. Carolina's difference in strikeouts over hits is currently the largest in MiLB. Since 1991, only the 2017 and 2007 Mudcats have finished a season with more strikeouts than hits. Carolina totaled 164 more strikeouts than hits in 2017 (1,245 SO [franchise record], 1,081 H) and 70 more strikeouts than hits in 2007 (1,219 SO, 1,149 H).

QUITE THE FAREWELL: Keston Hiura bid farewell to the Carolina League by going 5-for-5 with two home runs, three runs and two RBI on May 31 in Lynchburg. He set career highs for hits and home runs in a game in what ended up going his last game with the Mudcats as Milwaukee promoted him to Double-A the following morning. Hiura left the CL ranked 2nd in batting (.320), 1st, 2nd in hits (66), 1st in doubles (16), 1st in extra-base hits (26), tied for 1st in slugging (.529), tied for 2nd in runs (38) and 1st in total bases (109).

AWARDS SZN: Keston Hiura was named the Carolina League's Player of the Month for May on June 5 by Minor League Baseball. Hiura was also named the Brewers Minor League Player of the Month for May by Milwaukee on June 4... Carolina has also had three players earn Weekly Player/Pitcher of the Week awards this season; Ryan Aguilar - April 16-22, Weston Wilson - April 23-29 and Cam Roegner - May 7-13.
