June 5, 2018 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release
FREDERICK, MD- The Frederick Keys are excited to announce that Darren O'Day and Colby Rasmus are scheduled to play for the Keys on Major League rehab assignments on Tuesday night in Potomac. It will mark the first time that either player has suited up for the team.
O'Day, 35, was placed on the 10-day DL on May 9 with a hyperextended right elbow. In 13 relief appearances this year, the right-hander has an 0-1 record with a 3.77 ERA. He has struck out 18 batters over the course of 14.1 innings, while opponents are hitting .222 against him. O'Day has not pitched since May 4.
The right-hander joined the Orioles in 2012 and has been a mainstay in the bullpen since then. He was an all-star in 2015, a season in which he went 6-2 with a 1.52 ERA. In 384 appearances with the team, he has compiled a 28-13 record and a 2.39 ERA.
After signing with the Orioles in the offseason, Rasmus appeared in just eight games before going on the 10-day DL on April 7 with a left hip flexor strain. During that time, he batted .095/.174/.143 with a double and a run scored while appearing in right field and appearing as designated hitter and pinch hitter.
Rasmus began his career with the St. Louis Cardinals, and has played for the Toronto Blue Jays, Houston Astros, and the Tampa Bay Rays. In a career that has spanned 10 years, the outfielder has a .241 average and has hit 165 home runs. He finished eighth in Rookie of the Year voting in 2009.
O'Day and Rasmus mark the third and fourth Orioles player to join the Keys on rehab assignments this year. Zach Britton pitched a scoreless inning last week while rehabbing with a ruptured right Achilles tendon. In early May, O's second baseman, Jonathan Schoop joined the team for one game while recovering from a right oblique strain.
The Keys will begin a six-game roadtrip on Tuesday with the team making stops in Potomac and Wilmington. The Keys and Potomac Nationals get underway at 7:05 from Pfitzner Stadium tonight. Right-hander Ofelky Peralta (1-5, 6.00) starts for the Keys against P-Nats right-hander Tyler Mapes. The broadcast can be heard on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn radio app.
The Keys return to Nymeo Field on Monday, June 11 when the Lynchburg Hillcats and Down East Wood Ducks come to town for the final first half homestand. Highlights include two shows of the Cowboy Monkey Rodeo, Father's Day and a pair of fireworks shows. For tickets fans can call the Keys at 301-815-9939 or visit frederickkeys.com.
The Frederick Keys are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and play their home games at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium. In 2017, the Keys received the Esurance Home Field Advantage Award for Carolina League for the second straight season, after leading the circuit in highest percentage of attendance based on ballpark capacity. The club will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2018. For more information about the Frederick Keys please contact Geoff Arnold by phone at (301)-815-9915 or by emailing at GArnold@FrederickKeys.com.
