'Wolves Split Doubleheader

The SeaWolves were shutout in the opener of Thursday's doubleheader against the Binghamton Mets, 11-0 at Jerry Uht Park.

The B-Mets jumped ahead of Erie starter Lauren Gagnier in the top of the second inning. Ambiorix Concepcion led off with a walk and Caleb Stewart doubled to put a pair in scoring position. Salomon Manriquez followed with an RBI single to left to put the Mets ahead 1-0. With one out, Jonathan Malo doubled home both Stewart and Manriquez for a 3-0 Mets advantage.

Binghamton would take a commanding lead in the top of the third. With two outs and no one on base, Stewart doubled for his second hit of the game. Manriquez came to the plate and blooped a single in between four SeaWolves fielders, scoring Stewart for a 4-0 lead. Emmanuel Garcia doubled to put a pair in scoring position for Malo who again, doubled home a pair for a 6-0 Mets lead. Fernando Martinez singled and Jose Coronado walked to load the bases for Daniel Murphy. Murphy singled home a pair for an 8-0 Mets lead. Mike Carp then came in and clubbed his 12th home run of the season. That would put the Mets up 11-0, which would eventually be the final score.

Offensively for the ‘Wolves, the club was limited to just six singles in the game. Louis Ott and Danny Worth each had a pair of hits. Ryan Roberson went 0-for-3 and his league-best 42 game on-base streak came to an end.

Jonathan Niese (6-7) picked up the win for the Mets going the distance allowing just six Erie hits. He walked one and struck out eight.

Gagnier (1-2) took the loss for the ‘Wolves going 2.2 innings, allowing nine runs on eight hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
