Curve's Salute To Procrastination Night Still Not Scheduled

July 24, 2008 - Eastern League (EL1)
Altoona Curve News Release

ALTOONA- 18th and 19th Century English poet Edward Young best described procrastination as "the thief of time" and the Eastern League's Altoona Curve (AA/Pittsburgh Pirates) admittedly have been robbing time for months with their planning for the previously-announced, but not-yet-scheduled "Salute to Procrastination Night" at Blair County Ballpark.

With only 18 home dates remaining in the 2008 season, the Curve understand that public perception might be that time is running out to add this promotion to the club's slate of fun, light-hearted theme nights, alongside such hits as "Awful Night", "Please Come to Altoona Will Ferrell Night", "Renew Your Wedding Vows With Pastor Parney" and the upcoming "Train Wreck Series - Ode to Fallen Stars" (August 6).

"We still have 38 more days until the end of the season so there's no need to worry because there's still plenty of time get Salute to Procrastination Night planned," said Curve General Manager Todd Parnell. "38 days is still a long time away... I mean if you break it down you could play one World Cup, four World Series, nine U.S. Open Golf Tournaments and 38 Super Bowls during that period. When the time comes we'll lock ourselves in a room, turn off all televisions and radios, drink lots of coffee, and pull an all-nighter to come up with a promotion which will be just good enough for us to earn a passing grade from our fans."

The Curve's college interns, the club's resident procrastination experts, have been in charge of jump-starting the process of coming up with ideas for "Salute to Procrastination Night", but so far they have treated the assignment like a freshman English class writing assignment. At the Curve front office staff's weekly meeting this past Monday, the topic was brought up (for the ninth week in a row), but the only decision made was to keep the promotion on the schedule and that the group would discuss details next week.

"We have some ideas, but nothing is down on paper just yet," Parnell added. "Fans have no worries because we are professionals at planning promotions and I'm sure once our backs are finally up against the wall we'll come up with something great. Like Granny Parnell used to say ‘I don't want to see the labor, just show me the baby'".

The club will continue to provide updates on the status of "Salute to Procrastination Night", assuming continued attempts to meet about the promotion's details take place.
