Trenton Thunder News Release

(Manchester, NH)- New Hampshire scored the go-ahead two runs in the sixth inning en route to a 4-3 win over Trenton on Thursday afternoon in a rain-shortened game at Merchantsauto.com Stadium in Manchester, NH. The game was called in the seventh inning because of rain.

With the game tied 2-2 in the sixth inning, Right fielder Eric Nielsen led off with a double against Thunder starting pitcher Eric Hacker (5-2). Hacker was removed after the double in favor of Thunder reliever Zach Kroenke. First baseman Kyle Phillips followed with a sacrifice bunt. Kroenke picked up the bunt, and made an errant throw down the first base line allowing Nielsen to score the go-ahead run. Second baseman Scott Campbell had an RBI single later in the frame to tack on an insurance run. Trenton (64-39) closed to 4-3 on an RBI single by Left fielder James Cooper in the seventh inning. But, New Hampshire Shortstop Ryan Klosterman preserved the lead by recording the final out of the frame on a nifty play to rob Second baseman Reegie Corona of a potential game-tying base hit.

Trenton took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an error by New Hampshire Left fielder Jacob Butler. Butler mishandled a fly ball by Thunder Left fielder Colin Curtis allowing two runs to score with two outs in the top of the first inning. New Hampshire starting pitcher Brandon Magee (4-11) went seven innings and scattered six hits and three runs (one earned). Magee has now won three starts in a row. Hacker went five plus innings and gave up five hits and three runs (two earned) to take the loss. Trenton split the series with New Hampshire, and finishes the season series 8-6 against the Fisher Cats.

Trenton returns home on Friday night to start a series against the Portland Sea Dogs, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. LHP Phil Coke (9-4, 2.60) will start for Trenton against Portland RHP Adam Mills (0-2, 4.91). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
