Harrisburg Senators News Release
Bowie, MD - The Harrisburg Senators hung on Thursday afternoon in an 8-7 victory over the Bowie Baysox. The Senators cashed in on two-out opportunities, driving in four runs with two outs.
Mike Daniel and Matt Rogelstad each had three hits for the Senators.
The Senators jumped ahead in the top of the 1st. Ian Desmond drew a one-out walk, stole second and scored on Marvin Lowrance's two-out RBI single to left to make it 1-0.
They came up with more clutch hitting in the top of the 3rd. Desmond stroked a leadoff single. Bill Rhinehart hit a comebacker to the mound; RHP David Hernandez spun and threw toward second base but the throw was wild and into center field, moving the runners to second and third with nobody out. Ofilio Castro lined out to shortstop, but Lowrance hit an RBI groundout to first base to make it a 2-0 game. Devin Ivany followed with a two-out RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0. Ivany stole second and Rogelstad singled him home to push it to a 4-0 margin.
Bowie scored a run in the bottom of the 4th, but it could have been more. With two on and two out, Jeff Nettles lined a ball into the gap in right-center. One run scored, but Nolan Reimold was thrown out at the plate to end the inning with the Senators up, 4-1.
The Baysox tightened the game up when Reimold drilled a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the 6th to cut it to a 4-3 margin.
The Senators stormed right back with three runs in the top of the 7th. With LHP Jamie Walker in the game on a major-league rehab assignment, Marvin Lowrance hit a leadoff single and Ivany bunted him to second. Rogelstad dumped a single to right-center to put runners at the corners. Seth Bynum hammered a three-run home run down the left-field line to give Harrisburg a 7-3 lead.
Harrisburg tacked on another run with a two-out rally in the top of the 8th. Edgardo Baez slapped a two-out single to left and moved to second when Ivany walked. Rogelstad punched an RBI single to center to put the Senators ahead, 8-3.
The Baysox made it a nailbiter in the bottom of the 9th. A double sandwiched between a pair of walks loaded the bases with two out. Matt Wieters crushed a grand slam to right field make it an 8-7 game. But RHP Adam Carr got Lou Montanez to bounce back to the mound and end the game.
RHP Zack Segovia won his Senators' debut, allowing three runs in 5.2 innings of work. RHP David Hernandez took the loss to fall to 5-4.
The Senators improved to 57-46. Bowie dropped to 60-46.
The Senators now return to Commerce Bank Park for a seven-day, eight-game homestand against the Altoona Curve (Double-A Pittsburgh Pirates) and Reading Phillies (Double-A Philadelphia Phillies). Game time Friday against Altoona is set for 6:35 PM. RHP Jordan Zimmermann (4-2, 3.50 ERA) goes to the mound for Harrisburg against Altoona LHP Kyle Bloom (2-4, 4.09 ERA).
