Chicago Wolves News Release

The Chicago Wolves have recalled defenseman and Evanston native EVAN NIELSEN from the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL.

Nielsen shares third among Gwinnett defensemen with three goals and ranks fifth among team blueliners with five points in 22 games.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 210-pound blueliner, who made his American Hockey League debut with Chicago last season on March 30 against the Cleveland Barons, registered one goal and four penalty minutes in five games with the Wolves last year, becoming the 11th local player to wear a Wolves uniform.

Nielsen wrapped up his collegiate career last year with career-highs in assists (18) and points (21) in 39 games with the University of Notre Dame. The 22-year-old defenseman, who served as team captain during his junior and senior campaigns, ranked third on the team in assists and shared seventh on the club in points last year.

Overall, Nielsen, who missed just three games in four years at Notre Dame, registered 16 goals; 51 assists; 67 points; and 193 penalty minutes in 162 career games.

Nielsen was selected by the Atlanta Thrashers with their 11th pick (242nd overall) in the 2000 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
