December 10, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
Despite getting the first goals of the season from Bruce Richardson and Rob Voltera, the HERSHEY BEARS fall to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 6-4 at Wachovia Arena. The loss drops the BEARS from first place in the East Division for the first time since November 12th. HERSHEY'S record stands at 14-7-4-2.
Bruce Richardson began the scoring at just 3:03 into the first period on a goal assisted by D J Smith and Ryan Craig. It is the first goal of the season for the fan favorite, certain to be relieved to have that zero in the goal column erased. The Penguins would strike back with two goals of their own, both scored with Brad Larsen in the penalty box, on two separate occasions. The Penguins led 2-1 after one period.
The BEARS and Penguins would trade a pair of goals in the second period. The Penguins would strike twice on the power play at 10:36 and again with only one second remaining in the period. HERSHEY would get goals from Rob Voltera and Pascal Trepanier. Voltera's goal, unassisted, was his first tally of the season. Trepanier scored his second goal of the season, assisted by Brad Larsen. Going into the second intermission, the Penguins maintained a one goal lead, 4-3.
In the third period, the Penguins would score a back-breaking goal just twelve seconds into the period. They would take a two goal lead just 5:24 later to make the score 6-3. HERSHEY would get a goal back on the power-play. Eric Perrin scored his eighth goal of the season at the 12:50 mark. The BEARS would come no closer as the final score was 6-4.
Peter Budaj was relieved of his duties as Tom Lawson would finish the game. Sheldon Keefe had his five game point streak halted. The BEARS will be back in action on Friday night as they take on the Norfolk Admirals when the puck drops at 7:30 pm. Join John Walton, voice of the BEARS, for all of the action on BIG 92.7 beginning at 7:10 pm.
