Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves dropped their second straight game to the New Britain Rock Cats on Thursday night at Jerry Uht Park by a score of 11-4.
The âCats struck first in the top of the first inning against Erie starter Guillermo Moscoso. Brian Dinkelman led off and reached on an error. Steve Tolleson followed with a two-run home run, his eighth and second in as many nights, for a 2-0 lead.
The âWolves struck back, cutting the Rock Cats lead in half in the bottom of the first. Will Rhymes, Casper Wells and Wilkin Ramirez all singled to load the bases. With one out, Deik Scram singled home Rhymes to make it 2-1. Santo De Leon followed by grounding into one of two inning ending double plays on the night for Erie to kill the rally.
New Britain added a run in the top of the second inning when Joe Gaetti connected on his first home run of the season. The solo-shot put the âCats ahead 3-1.
Erie again responded by tying the game in the bottom of the second. Caonabo Cosme led off with a single and Shawn Roof singled with one out to put a pair on base. Roof finished with his second three-hit night of the season. With two outs, Wells singled for his second hit of the game, loading the bases for Ramirez. Ramirez connected on his second hit of the night, a two-run single, making it a 3-3 game.
New Britain would come right back in the top of the third to regain the lead. David Winfree walked with two outs and Danny Valencia came up with a two-run home run, his third, for a 5-3 Rock Cats lead.
The score remained the same until the top of the sixth when the âCats struck big to put the game out of reach. Matt Moses led off with a single and with two outs, was triple home by Toby Gardenhire to make it 6-3 New Britain. Dinkelman walked to put runners on the corners for Tolleson who came up with his second hit of the game, an RBI single, scoring Gardenhire for a 7-3 lead. Dustin Martin followed with the âCats second triple of the inning, brining home both Dinkelman and Tolleson for a 9-3 lead. Winfree singled home Martin to cap off a five-run inning and a 10-3 Rock Cats lead.
Erie struck for their fourth and final run in the bottom of the seventh. Jeff Frazier doubled with one out and he scored on Scram's second hit of the game to make it 10-4. That would be the closest Erie would get.
The Rock Cats added a run in the top of the ninth to go ahead 11-4, which would be the final score.
Moscoso (2-1) went four innings, allowing five runs, for earned, on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Moscoso has struck out 23 hitters in 16 innings since joining the SeaWolves.
