BAYSOX TAKE OVER FIRST PLACE IN SOUTHERN DIVISION

The Baysox have shown resilience against the Trenton Thunder this week as they have taken the first two games from them to start the series. Trenton has been the best team in the league this season, but with the two wins, the Baysox have tied Trenton with 73 wins on the season. Bowie has won 7 of their last 10 games, including 3 in a row. Akron, whom the Baysox have been chasing for the lead in the division, has won just 4 of their last 10 and have lost their last 3 games.

Records, Records, We've Got Records: Pitcher Brad Bergesen has increased his Baysox Single Season Wins record courtesy of the win on Tuesday night in Trenton. He won his 15th game of the season and stands two wins above the rest in the record books. Pitcher Julio Manon tied the Single Season Saves record with his 27th save of the season on Sunday night against New Britain. He is currently tied with Jacobo Sequea who recorded 27 saves in 2004.

Playoff Bound: It's been a while since the Baysox have tasted post-season, but they are currently poised to return to playoff position this season. With just 17 games left to play, they hold a 6.0 game lead over 3rd place Harrisburg. Of those 17 games left, The Baysox will play just 6 at home where they are 42-23 on the season. The 'Sox road record is 31-29.

Record Watch: Baysox starting pitcher David Hernandez is closing in on a record of his own. After Wednesday night's game in Trenton, Hernandez has 150 strikeouts on the season. The Single season record is 177 set by Jimmy Haynes in 1994. Hernandez should have 3 more starts this season and would need to average 9 K's per game to tie the record.

Triple Crown A Possibility Still: Current Orioles OF and 2008 Eastern League MVP candidate Lou Montanez still leads the E.L. in the Triple Crown categories with a .335 Batting Average, 26 HR's and 97 RBI's. Jeff Nettles is hot on Montanez's heels for the HR lead as Jeff is tied with Erie's Ryan Roberson with 22 HR's. Akron's Wes Hodges is 2nd in the E.L. with 86 RBI's.

Throwin' Gas: In their last 5 starts combined, Baysox pitchers David Hernandez and Chris Tillman have combined to strikeout 42 opposing batters in 27.2 innings pitched. is quietly putting together a solid season that includes his current ranking of 3rd in the E.L. in ERA (2.60) and ranking 1st in Strikeouts (137). He is on pace to challenge for the single season strikeout record of 177 set by Jimmy Haynes in 1994. With his 137 K's so far, he currently sits 7th on the Baysox single season list.

Swingin' A Hot Bat: C Matt Wieters just continues to abuse Eastern League opponents. In his last ten games, Wieters is 14-37 (.378 BA) with 3 HR's and 13 RBI's. He has also scored 8 runs. Don't wait too long to come out and see Wieters play up close. This is a star in the making right before your eyes.

Bullpen's Bullish: Felix Romero has been outstanding coming out of the Bowie bullpen in the last 10 games. He is 1-0 with 4 hits allowed in 8.1 IP while only giving up 1 run and striking out 14 batters. He has also recorded 2 saves during that time.
