Akron RubberDucks News Release

The Aeros made three roster moves today, receiving IF Josh Barfield on a Major League rehab assignment from Cleveland, promoting LHP Scott Lewis to Class AAA Buffalo and receiving right-handed reliever Neil Wagner from Class A Kinston.

Barfield has missed more than two months with a torn tendon in the middle finger of his left hand. He began this year with Buffalo and hit .255 with five homers and 21 RBI in 62 games before being recalled to Cleveland. He appeared in just two games with the Indians before being injured. Barfield spent all of last season with Cleveland, hitting .243 with three homers and 50 RBI in 130 games. He will start at second base for Akron tonight and is slated to play three innings, with his playing time during the rest of his rehab to be determined. He was acquired from San Diego November 8, 2006 in exchange for 3B Kevin Kouzmanoff and RHP Andrew Brown.

Lewis, the reigning Eastern League Pitcher of the Week, gets his first taste of AAA with the promotion. The left-hander missed the first two months of the year with a strained left lat muscle but rebounded to go 6-2 with a sparkling 2.33 ERA. He allowed a grand total of two earned runs over his final seven starts for the Aeros, spanning 44.1 innings. He set a career-high with 10 strikeouts in a win at Altoona August 4th.

The hard-throwing Wagner comes to Akron after a good string of recent success in Kinston. The native of Eden Prairie, MN allowed just two runs in his final nine appearances, covering 14.1 innings. He also struck out 22 hitters and walked only five in those nine games. On the year Wagner was 3-6 with three saves and a 4.50 ERA in 41 relief outings for the K-Tribe. He struck out 81 and walked just 21 in 62.0 innings. He will replace RHP J.D. Martin in the Akron bullpen, as Martin slides into the rotation spot vacated by Lewis.
