
'Wolves Down Squirrels 4-1, Winning Fourth Straight

The SeaWolves won their fourth consecutive game on Wednesday night, taking down the Richmond Flying Squirrels 4-1 at Jerry Uht Park.
Erie struck first for the third straight game in the bottom of the third. Brent Wyatt led off the inning with his first triple. With one out, Wyatt came home to score on a sacrifice fly to right off the bat of Brandon Douglas for a 1-0 lead.
Richmond tied the game against Erie starter Brayan Villarreal in the top of the sixth when Tyler La Torre led off and hit a solo home run to left making it a 1-1 game.
The SeaWolves regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh against reliever Daryl Maday. With two outs and Douglas hitting, Alden Carrithers stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher La Torre. Douglas sent a soft roller towards the shortstop Brad Boyer. Boyer bare handed but could not get Douglas at first. Carrithers scored giving the 'Wolves a 2-1 advantage.
Erie added to its lead in the bottom of the eighth. Bryan Pounds led off with a single and Billy Nowlin was hit by a pitch putting two on for Deik Scram. Scram laid down a sacrifice bunt pushing the runners into scoring position. With the infield drawn in, John Murrian lined a two-run double passed a diving Connor Gillaspie at third giving Erie a 4-1 edge.
Reliever Matt Hoffman, who spelled Villarreal in the seventh, worked 2.2 scoreless innings allowing a walk in picking up his first Double-A win.
Cory Hamilton earned his first save by retiring the final out of the ninth.
Villarreal took a no-decision allowing a run on four hits with a walk and seven strikeouts.
The win evened Erie's home record to .500 at 33-33.
The 'Wolves will look for a four-game sweep of the Flying Squirrels on Thursday night at Jerry Uht Park.7:05 First Pitch. Lefty Jon Kibler (4-6, 6.19 ERA) takes the mound for the 'Wolves against RHP Mike Macdonald (4-8, 4.05 ERA).
