Portland Winterhawks News Release

The Portland Winterhawks dropped a 6-0 road decision to the first-place Tri-City Americans Tuesday night.

The Americans opened the game with three goals in the first minute of play: Justin Feser opened the scoring 27 seconds in, Johnny Lazo scored 40 seconds in, and Mason Wilgosh made it 3-0 52 seconds into the game. Winterhawks goaltender Mac Carruth was replaced by Ian Curtis following the third goal, and Curtis stopped the 13 shots he faced through the end of the period as the score remained 3-0 through the end of the first.

The Winterhawks bounced back from the slow start and carried the play through the early part of the second period, outshooting Tri-Cities 10-2 to open the period. However, it would be the Americans who would get the first goal of the period, as Jordan Messier scored a power play goal at the 7:36 mark to give Tri-Cities a 4-0 lead. The Winterhawks kept applying pressure, but all 18 of their second period shots were stopped by Tri-Cities netminder Alexander Pechurskiy, keeping the score 4-0 heading into the third period.

Messier opened the third period with his second power play goal of the game at the 1:38 mark to make it 5-0, and Feser had his second of the game at the 8:40 mark, also on a power play, to make it 6-0, a score that would stand as the final.

Pechurskiy finished with the shutout for Tri-Cities, stopping all 31 shots the Winterhawks fired at him. After entering the game in the first period, Curtis stopped 30 of the 33 shots he faced.

The Winterhawks' next game is Saturday when they travel to Kent to take on the Seattle Thunderbirds. That game begins at 6 p.m. and can be heard live on Freedom 970 AM.
