Hitmen Suffer Shootout Loss To Red Deer

Calgary, AB - In a game that saw the lead change hands four times, the Calgary Hitmen lost 5-4 in a shootout to the visiting Red Deer Rebels Wednesday night.

The Hitmen opened the scoring on Joel Broda's team leading 31st goal of the season.

The Rebels then scored three answered from Brett Ferguson, Andrej Kudrna and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to take a 3-1 lead. However Calgary followed with three goals of their own 2:20 apart off the sticks of Kris Foucault, Cody Beach and Matt MacKenzie to take a 4-3 lead to the third period.

In the third, Willie Coetzee drew the Rebels even scoring the tying goal with 7:49 remaining in regulation.

Overtime solved nothing, but in the shootout Red Deer got goals from Landon Ferraro and Coetzee, while Misha Fisenko was the lone Hitmen sniper.

Calgary is now 43-17-1-2. They lead the Central Division by six points over Kootenay, but trail Saskatoon by two points for number one overall.

The Hitmen will play the rematch with the Rebels Friday night in Red Deer.

Next Hitmen home game is Saturday against the Kelowna Rockets. It's the Calgary Stampede, Trico Homes, Carma Developers Lunar Celebration Game in recognition of Chinese New Year.

Over 8,000 fortune cookies will be given out FREE to fans. Inside there are over 300 prizes including a 1,500 gift card from Canada Safeway. Fans will also be treated to a special Chinese New Year dance in the first intermission while two high school bands will provide in-game entertainment. The night will be capped with post game fireworks.
