February 24, 2010 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release
The Saskatoon Blades scored three unanswered goals, including the overtime winner, en route to a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors on Wednesday night on the road.
Gaelan Patterson (Saskatoon, SK) potted two goals, including the overtime marker, while Sena Acolatse (Edmonton, AB) and Stefan Elliott (North Vancouver, BC) added singles for the road squad, who has now earned at least a point in three consecutive games.
Moose Jaw - 1st - Chad Suer (Jason Bast) 3:45 Suer gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead early in the opening frame on his 4th of the season. The 19-year-old fired a shot through a crowd that was redirected high past goaltender Adam Morrison (White Rock, BC).
Moose Jaw - 2nd - Quinton Howden (Bast, Suer) 2:17 pp The Warriors went up 2-0 just two minutes into the second period. Bast took a shot that was stopped by Morrison. The rebound, however, came to Howden at Morrison's left and the sophomore forward made no mistake for his 27th of the year.
Saskatoon - 2nd - Acolatse (Charles Inglis, Jyri Niemi) 5:12 pp Acolatse cut the Warriors lead in half with a power play marker three minutes later. The 19-year-old fired a slap shot from the point and beat a screened Brandon Glover for his 15th on the campaign.
Moose Jaw - 2nd - Thomas Frazee (Bast) 17:46 Frazee regained the two-goal lead for the Warriors before the middle frame was out. The four-year veteran drilled a shot that beat Morrison under the under right pad for his 20th of the season.
Saskatoon - 3rd - Patterson (Tyler Kizuik) 2:11 The Blades again pulled within a goal on the 23rd goal of the season from Patterson. The 19-year-old assistant captain sent a slap shot on goal from just above the faceoff circle that beat Glover stick side.
Saskatoon - 3rd - Elliott (Marek Viedensky, Derek Hulak) 14:45 Elliott tied things up with his 23rd of the season with a little over five minutes left in regulation. The Colorado Avalanche draft pick fired a snap shot low blocker side from the point that beat Glover to make it 3-3.
Saskatoon - OT - Patterson (Walker Wintoneak) :15 The Blades secured the win on the opening rush of the overtime period. Wintoneak (Flin Flon, MB) sent a shot on goal and Patterson jumped on the rebound for his second of the night and 24th of the campaign.
Morrison turned aside 33 of 36 shots in the Saskatoon net to earn the victory. Glover made 22 saves in the Warriors' net to take the overtime loss.
Final score Saskatoon Blades 4, Moose Jaw Warriors 3 (OT).
The Blades improve to 42-14-3-4 for 91 points on the season and, for the time being, are three points up on the Calgary Hitmen and Brandon Wheat Kings for top spot in the Eastern Conference. The Warriors fall to 29-24-5-4 for 67 points and, with the single point, move one point up on the idle Swift Current Broncos for seventh spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Blades now turn the attention to Friday night and "Faith Night" against the Prince Albert Raiders. Two-time Grammy nominee "G.R.I.T.S." will perform both pre-game and post-game concerts during the night. Fans will also have the chance to take part in a free skate during the post-game concert. The pre-game festivities begin at 6:00 pm with puck drop at 7:05 pm. For more information on "Faith Night", including a special ticket rate for church groups, visit www.bladesfaithnight.com.
Fans need not to worry about missing the Team Canada Olympic Semi-Final Game on Friday night.
