February 24, 2010 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Spokane Chiefs News Release
Despite outshooting the Everett Silvertips 41-25 the Spokane Chiefs dropped a 2-1 decision on Wednesday night in the Spokane Arena. The loss snapped a season high seven game winning streak and dropped the Chiefs record to 38-21-3-1. Spokane falls four points behind Everett for third place in the Western Conference.
The Chiefs put 19 shots in the first but Thomas Heemskerk, who finished the night with 40 saves, stopped them all. Everett struck in the second period with a goal at 12:33 by Byron Froese.
The Chiefs tied it up at time expired in the middle frame when Kyle Beachs stick was the last one to touch a wrap around attempt by Jared Spurgeon. While Spokane was skating on the power play and with time expiring, Spurgeon picked up the loose puck and carried it around the back of the net. With his attempt going parallel to the goal line, Beach tipped it in for his league leading 47th of the season.
The Silvertips Scott MacDonald scored the game winner at 6:16 of the third on a shot from the slot.
Spokane pulled goaltender James Reid, who stopped 25 shots on the night, late in the game, but the Chiefs couldnt find the equalizer. Spokane was 1-3 on the power play and 3-3 on the penalty kill.
The Chiefs will host the Prince George Cougars on Friday night on Comcast Jersey off the Back Night. The game will begin at 7:30 after a pre-game ceremony recognizes the Top 25 Chiefs in 25 Years.
Tickets for all home games are available by calling the Chiefs at (509) 535-PUCK or TicketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT.
