Portland Winterhawks News Release

The Portland Winterhawks (25-23-2-0) fell 4-2 in Kamloops Saturday against the Blazers (23-18-5-3).

Kamloops had the lone goal in a back-and-forth first period, as Nick Chyzowski's power play goal 3:51 into the game gave the Blazers a 1-0 lead they took into the second.

The Blazers extended the lead 2:27 into the second on a goal by Garrett Pilon to make it 2-0. The Hawks got on the board 1:39 later when Rihards Bukarts sprung Alex Schoenborn with a breakaway pass, with Schoenborn beating netminder Connor Ingram to cut the deficit to 2-1, which remained the score going into the third.

The Hawks peppered Ingram with shots throughout the period, and finally broke through at 15:13. With Portland on a power play, defenseman Jack Dougherty ripped a shot from the blueline that got through traffic and beat Ingram to make it 2-2. However, Kamloops regained a lead 2:34 later when Jake Kryski scored to give them a 3-2 advantage.

With under a minute to go and Adin Hill on the bench for an extra attacker, the Blazers' Collin Shirley scored a shorthanded goal into the empty net to give them a 4-2 win.

Along with the goals from Schoenborn and Dougherty, Rihards Bukarts had two assists.

Adin Hill made 39 saves in the defeat, while Connor Ingram stopped 41 of the 43 shots the Hawks took.

The Hawks will be back in action Wednesday when they travel to Everett to take on the Silvertips at 7 p.m.
