Game Story

The evening started with an emotional pre-game ceremony as the Pats and Blades stood united at centre ice in support of the community of La Loche. Saskatoon jumped out of the gate when Braylon Shmyr stole the puck in front of the Pats goal and opened the scoring just 1:11 in. Former Pat Connor Gay added to the lead three minutes in, scoring on a 4-on-3 powerplay. The Pats responded with a powerplay goal of their own when Jared Freadrich poked the puck into the Blades net in a scramble. Regina tied the game when Adam Brooks went to call-up Robbie Holmes on a two-on-one and the prospect made no mistake, sending the game to the break tied 2-2.

The hosts got off to another hot start when Wyatt Sloboshan capped off a Libor Hajek drive to give the Blades a 3-2 lead 34 seconds into the second. Just moments later, Nick Zajac struck in his 300th WHL game to put Saskatoon ahead 4-2. Things calmed down until Shmyr got his second of the night at the 15:29 mark on a Blades two-on-one. Just 17 seconds later, Riley Woods responded by finishing off a give-and-go with Adam Brooks to get the Pats back within two. That score held until the intermission with the Blades taking a 5-3 lead to intermission.

Jordan Hollett replaced Tyler Brown to begin the third period and another early tally sent the Blades to a 6-3 advantage. Colton Waltz burned around the back of the net and wrapped the puck into the goal. Braylon Shmyr capped off his hat-trick when he banked the puck into the Pats goal from below the goal line. The Pats were unable to cut into the lead and fell by a 7-3 score.
