KEYS COMPLETE SWEEP AGAINST DASH

Behind 10 hits from the Keys offense, Frederick completed a three-game sweep of Winston by taking the series finale 6-1 on Thursday at BB&T Ballpark. The Keys' victory on Thursday marked the first time the Dash have been swept in the 2018 campaign. Frederick got on the board against right-hander Blake Battenfield in the top of the first. With one out, T.J. Nichting homered to right field to make it a 1-0 contest. The Keys added on three more runs in the top of the fourth and two in the sixth to increase their advantage. The Dash managed to put the tying run on deck, but Tyler Erwin shut the door to earn his 12th save of the year.

IT TOOK YOU LONG ENOUGH, CL

It took until game number 104 for a Carolina League team to complete a sweep against the Dash this year, marking the second-longest stretch ever in Dash history (2009-present) to start a season without a sweep. The 2012 Dash team, which finished a Minor League Baseball-best 87-51-1 that year, was never swept. However, the 2012 Dash fell to the Lynchburg Hillcats in the Mills Cup Championship Series that year. By contrast, Winston-Salem has started off two seasons in the Dah era by getting swept (2013 & 2017).

BLAKE THE GREAT

Thanks to his 1-for-4 performance on Thursday, Blake Rutherford has now posted a season-best 10-game hitting streak, during which he is registering an average of .349 (15-for-43) with eight runs scored and six RBIs. A former first-round pick by the Yankees, Rutherford was traded over to the White Sox just over a year in July of 2017 as part of a four-player package. He is currently tied for the league lead in hits (105) and ranks second in RBIs (66).

WE MEET AGAIN, RED SOX

Friday marks the first game of a three-game set against between the Dash and the Red Sox at Haley Toyota Field. Winston-Salem is 5-2 in the Roanoke Valley this season.

SETTLING IN AS ONE OF THE BEST

After clinching a first-half Southern Division championship, Winston-Salem now has the sixth-best winning percentage in full-season Minor League Baseball with a .596 mark. Here's a look at the top teams:

1. Bowling Green Hot Rods (Midwest League - A): 67-35 (.657)

2. Memphis Redbirds (Pacific Coast League - AAA): 66-38 (.635)

3. Corpus Christi Hooks (Texas League - AA): 63-40 (.611)

T-4. Lehigh Valley IronPigs

(International League - AAA): 62-40 (.608)

T-4. Lakewood BlueClaws

(South Atlantic League - A): 62-40 (.608)

6. Winston-Salem Dash (Carolina League - A+): 62-42 (.596)

HENZMAN TAKES THE HILL

Right-hander Lincoln Henzman will take the hill in the series opener on Friday for Winston-Salem. A fourth-round pick by the White Sox out of the University of Louisville, Henzman is coming off his best outing with the Dash. On July 22 against the Pelicans, the former Cardinal tossed three shutout innings and struck out three. Henzman, who is rated by MLB Pipeline, as the 25th-best prospect in the White Sox system, went 6-3 with a 2.23 ERA in 13 starts with Low-A Kannapolis in the first half. During his final year with the Cardinals, Henzman posted 16 saves in 37.2 innings pitched. Ironically, he replaced Zack Burdi in the closer's role, who was drafted by the White Sox in the first round in 2016.

DASH DOTS

The Dash's three-game series from Friday through Sunday will be the last road trip to Salem this season...Winston-Salem will round out its 2018 home slate with a four-game series against the Red Sox from August 27-30. Salem third baseman Bobby Dalbec leads the Carolina League with 24 homers and 81 RBIs.
