Dalbec Breaks Red Sox Round-Tripper Records

July 27, 2018 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Salem Red Sox News Release

SALEM - With his sixth-inning three-run homer Friday night, Salem Red Sox third baseman Bobby Dalbec made history, grabbing sole control of the Red Sox-era (2009-present) record for career homers (25) and the all-time homer record at Haley Toyota Field (13).

Dalbec won two consecutive Carolina League Player of the Week awards earlier in July for his outstanding performance for the Red Sox. In the month of July, Dalbec is hitting .337 (29-86) with seven doubles, a triple and 10 homers (topping Xander Bogaerts' efforts in June 2012 for the single-month homer record in the Red Sox era), driving in 30 runs (matching Michael Chavis' 30 in May 2017 for the most in a month in the Red Sox era) and scoring 18 more. His OPS for the month is a Bondsian 1.208.

On the season, Dalbec leads the Carolina League in home runs (25), RBI (84), doubles (27), extra-base hits (53), total bases (190) and strikeouts (127). He's second in slugging percentage (.564) and bases on balls (57). His 25 homers put him one ahead of Brandon Jacobs for the career record in the Red Sox era, and he has hit 13 home runs at Haley Toyota Field to pass Chavis' career stadium record of 12. His 53 extra-base hits are the new high-water mark in the Red Sox era, passing Rafael Devers' 51 in 2016, and he's only nine extra-base knocks from matching Brad Hawpe and Jorge Piedra's Salem-record 2002 campaign. With five more RBI, he'll match Keury De La Cruz's 89 in 2013 as the Red Sox-era single-season record.

Drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 MLB Draft from the University of Arizona, Dalbec made his pro debut in 2016, batting .386 with seven homers in 34 games for the Short Season-A Lowell Spinners. He was named New York-Penn League Player of the Week for August 15-21 and 22-28 in that year, and was tabbed as the Red Sox Minor League Hitter of the Month for August/September. In 2017, Dalbec was limited by a hamate injury, batting .246 with 13 homers and 39 RBI in 78 games for the Low-A Greenville Drive. At Arizona, he was a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American, and led the 2015 Cape Cod League with 12 homers for the Orleans Firebirds. A two-way star for the Wildcats, he led Arizona with 15 homers and 58 RBI as a sophomore, and played for Team USA in 2015.
