Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
The Winnipeg GoldEyes won the opening salvo of a 3 game battle at TELUS Field Tuesday night with an 11 to 0 white washing of the Edmonton Cracker-Cats.
South Paw Mike Kusiewicz started for the âCats, making his first appearance of the year. The first 5 batters he faced all scored on a single, a double, a base on ball, and 2 home runs. After that, Kusiewicz dropped his arm angle down and pitched well. Kusiewicz pitched scoreless ball through to the 6th inning. Kusiewicz (0-1) allowed 7 runs, 6 earned, on 11 hits with 4 strikeouts.
Right hander Ian Holmen allowed 4 more runs on 2 innings of relief work.
Winnipeg starter Glenn Bott was outstanding for the fish, going the distance to improve his record to 6 and 5. Bott scattered 6 hits, struck out 6 hitters, and did not walk a batter.
The GoldEyes now improve to 11 and 7 and take a 2 game lead over the âCats, now 8 and 8.
The series resumes Wednesday night with right hander Mike Henry (2-0, 1.88 ERA) for Edmonton. The GoldEyes will counter with Ben Moore (4-1, 3.65 ERA).
