Redhawks down Flyers in the ninth

Schaumburg Flyers News Release

Fargo, ND- The Schaumburg Flyers (8-8, 39-25) dropped the series opener to the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks (9-8, 41-24) 2-1 after Redhawk second basemen Craig Ringe singled in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth at Newman Outdoor Field.

Matt Bailie pitched a terrific game for the Flyers. He went six innings, giving up one unearned run while striking out seven and scattering eight hits.

Unfortunately, his opponent did better. Making his first professional start against the Flyers, and just his second start of the season Brion Treadway dealt for eight innings allowing one run on just two hits while striking out nine.

However, neither starting pitcher factored in the decision. Brandon Culp pitched a perfect ninth to get the win for Fargo. Matt Schweitzer came into the game in the 7th to get Chris Andel out of a jam. Schweitzer sent the Redhawks down in order in the 8th but couldn't get the final out in the 9th. He gets his first loss and falls to 5-1.

Josue Lopez was able to figure out Treadway. Lopez went 1-2 and crushed his seventh homer to right- center field to lead off the second and took a base on balls in the fourth.

The Flyers and Redhawks square off again tomorrow night at 7:05.
