August 1, 2006 - Northern League (NL)
Edmonton Capitals News Release

As the Edmonton Cracker-Cats returned home to start their drive to the second half crown, they made a couple of roster moves.

The Edmonton Cracker-Cats announced the signing of right-handed outfielder Kyle Nichols. Nichols has already played for two Northern League teams this season, the Joliet Jackhammers and Kansas City T-Bones, where he hit a combined 11 HR and 34 RBI with a .285 batting average in 70 games. Nichols is a 6'2" 235 pound Florida resident who status is listed as an LS-5. Nichols began his career in the Diamondbacks organization in 2001 and was a minor league All-Star in '03 when he hit .312 with 31 HR and 108 RBI. He has also played in the Philadelphia and Cincinnati organizations. His 11 homeruns so far this year would lead the Cracker-Cats team.

To make room for Nichols, the Cracker-Cats announced release of Derek Patterson. Patterson, an original Cracker-Cat, served as the DH this entire season without an inning in the field and was hitting .240 with 2 homeruns and 38 RBI at the time of his release.
