Flyers drop third straight

August 1, 2006 - Northern League (NL)
Schaumburg Flyers News Release

For the second night in a row the Schaumburg Flyers (8-9, 39-26) get another solid performance out of their starter but can't solve RedHawk pitching as the Flyers lose 5-1 to Fargo-Moorhead.

This time Blake Williams took the loss for Schaumburg but gave up only two earned runs over six innings. He left the game in the seventh after a leadoff double by the RedHawks' (10-8, 42-24) designated hitter Harry Berrios. Two consecutive errors led to two more runs and Williams left the game after a passed ball by Flyer's catcher Ryan Walker plated a fifth run.

The Flyers hitters were stymied once again by Fargo pitching. Lefty Mike Peschel threw for 7.1 allowing just five hits and one run while tying a career high by striking out nine batters.

Flyers' shortstop Sandy Almonte smashed a solo- homer off of the Newman Outdoor Field scoreboard for the Flyers' only run and his first homerun of the season.

Chris Weekly pinch hit for newcomer Todd Sather in the seventh. He singled up the middle on the first pitch he saw and was immediately replaced by pinch runner Matt Schweitzer.

The RedHawks and Flyers finish the series tomorrow afternoon. The scheduled pitchers are RHP Rick DeHart for Schaumburg and LHP Mark Michael for Fargo.
