Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, N.D. - Behind a strong pitching performance by Mike Peschel the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks defeated the Schaumburg Flyers 5-1 in front of 3,698 at Newman Outdoor Field on Tuesday to claim a series victory before the finale on Wednesday afternoon.

Returning to the starting rotation and making his first start since June 18, Peschel pitched 7.1 innings and allowed just one run on five hits to improve to 5-3 on the season while tying a single-game career high with nine strikeouts.

The only run of the night plated for the Flyers came off of a solo home run by Sandy Alamonte, marking the second straight night that Schaumburg has scored just one. In Monday's game the RedHawks allowed just one run as Josue Lopez hit a solo home run in the second inning.

Fargo-Moorhead touched the league's best pitcher, entering tonight's game, for one run in the first inning and another in the fourth before taking advantage of two Schaumburg errors in the seventh inning to score three runs. Of the five runs that Blake Williams allowed only two of them were earned but he was still credited with the loss and fell to 5-2.

Leading the way for the RedHawks was veteran leadoff man Joe Mathis who went 3-for-3 on the night including two doubles and one run scored. Richard Austin also chipped in as he added his 12th home run of the season in the fourth inning.

The RedHawks (10-8, 42-24) will wrap up their current three-game series with the Flyers (8-9, 39-26) on Wednesday in a Business Day Special scheduled to begin at 12:35 p.m.
