August 1, 2006 - Northern League (NL)
Calgary Vipers News Release

The Calgary Vipers have acquired right-handed starting pitcher Phil Sobkow from the Winnipeg Goldeyes in exchange for reliever Jason Glosser. Both players have joined their respective new clubs after the deal was arranged late Sunday night.

In his second Northern League season, Sobkow has a record of 0-1 with a 5.14 ERA in five starts with the Goldeyes. His latest start, and only loss of the season, came on Saturday afternoon against the Vipers at Foothills Stadium.

Sobkow, a native of Yorkton, Saskatchewan was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the tenth round of the 2003 draft.

Glosser, a 6'3 reliever will be joining his third Northern League team of the season after beginning the season with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks before coming to Calgary. In seven appearances with the Vipers, Glosser put up a record of 2-0 with a 9.95 ERA. Glosser earned the victory in Calgary's comeback win over the Goldeyes on Sunday afternoon.

The trade adds another arm to the Vipers starting rotation as they attempt to track down a Northern League playoff spot. Calgary currently sits just 2.0 games behind the Goldeyes for the final playoff berth in the West Division.

The Vipers also intend to bolster their roster this week with the addition of a pair of Triple-A veterans who have become available after being eliminated from the Mexican League playoffs.
