Vipers Season Over with Game Six Loss

Allowing 18 hits the Calgary Vipers (2-4) were defeated 9-2 by the Edmonton Capitals (4-2) in Game 6 of the North Division Championship Series before 3395 fans at Telus Field in Edmonton, Alberta. With the loss the Vipers were knocked out of the playoffs losing the best of seven series four games to two. Edmonton once again busted out offensively scoring all nine of their runs in a five inning span from the second to the sixth. Mike Burns (1-1) took the loss after allowing seven runs on 13 hits in five innings.

Edmonton opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning as Carlos Duncan followed by Tom Collaro collected back-to-back doubles while Steve Brown drove in a run with a single for a 2-0 advantage.

The Capitals doubled their lead to 4-0 in the third when Brent Metheny doubled and J.D. Closser hit a two-run home run.

Edmonton continued to score in the fourth frame as Dallas Buck singled, Brown doubled, Enrique Cruz singled in two, Metheny collected a base hit, stole second base, and scored on a Closser run batted in single for a 7-0 advantage.

Calgary got a run back in the sixth inning when Wilver Perez walked, Jimmy Rohan reached on a fielding error, C.J. Ziegler walked to load the bases, and Lino Garcia collected a sacrifice fly for a 7-1 score.

The Capitals got back on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth as Cruz tripled, Todd Linden collected a sacrifice fly, Metheny singled, Closser doubled, and Duncan also collected a sacrifice fly for a 9-1 lead.

The Vipers closed out the scoring in the ninth frame when Chad Ehrnsberger doubled and scored on a Al Quintana RBI single for a 9-2 final.
