Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

WINNIPEG - Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today the acquisition of infielder Louis Ott from the Gary SouthShore RailCats in exchange for cash and a player to be named later.

Ott, 26, comes to Winnipeg after playing two games with the RailCats this season, where he had two hits and three RBI in 10 at-bats. He posted a successful 2010 season in Gary that saw him hit .301 with six home runs and 53 RBI in 90 games. Defensively, he played all four infield positions and saw action in 20 games as catcher.

"Louis will come in and be our everyday third baseman," Forney said. "He had a productive season with Gary last summer and we expect he can continue that success with the Goldeyes this season."

The switch-hitting Ott spent the 2009 campaign in the Florida Marlins system with Advanced-A Jupiter in the Florida State League after four seasons in the Detroit Tigers organization. He reached Double-A Erie with the Tigers in 2008.

Ott will join the team tomorrow in Sioux Falls, where the Goldeyes begin a four-game series with the Pheasants.

The Goldeyes made two other roster moves today, re-signing right-handed rookie pitcher Barry Fowler and releasing infielder Damon Lessler.

Winnipeg now has 23 players on its active roster, including 13 pitchers and 10 position players.

The Goldeyes conclude a four-game series with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks this afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at Shaw Park.

Great seats for all Goldeyes games are available by calling 1-855-GOLDEYE, clicking on Ticketmaster.ca or visiting any Ticketmaster outlet, including the one inside Shaw Park.
