Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
SHREVEPORT, La. -- John James threw six quality innings and the Lincoln Saltdogs batted around in the fifth to defeat the Shreveport-Bossier Captains 7-4 at Fair Grounds Field Sunday night.
Leading 3-1, the 'Dogs sent 10 men to the plate in the big fifth inning, tallying four runs on five hits to temporarily blow the game open.
Shreveport-Bossier made things interesting in the final frame, bringing the potential tying run to the plate before P.J. Zocchi got Captains clean-up hitter Andres Rodriguez to foul out to end the game.
James (1-0) allowed three runs on five hits, striking out five and walking zero to earn the victory. Aaron Cunningham (0-1) went 4 1/3 innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits to suffer the loss. Zocchi recorded the final two outs in the bottom of the ninth to pick up his second save.
Gavin Dickey went 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored. Blake Gailen and Curt Smith also delivered multi-hit efforts for the third time in the four-game series.
Saltdogs hitters did not strike out the entire game.
The Saltdogs improve to 2-2 on the season. Shreveport-Bossier drops to 2-2.
